WELCOME to the site. Here you will find a history and documentation of my work as well as where my interests and pursuits connect. I am attracted to the point of contact between sound and art and the mutuality in extremes that most often does not fit into an archetypical template or format.
Roland Ventura Toledo, a.k.a Alter Structure, is an artist and modern designer. He works in the cross road between sound, architecture, sculpture, and graphic design.

Forgotten Island PDX is a multimedia performance based on the documentary series Forgotten Island. The series explores the immediate aftermath of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and features people from across the island as they cope with the devastation. Forgotten Island PDX expands on this idea employing 30 minutes of additional original and archival footage as well as live electronic music to create an immersive and impressionistic human portrait of an island still reeling from the trauma of Maria. The recent swarm of earthquakes has retriggered that trauma and reminds us how fragile the ground beneath our feet can be. Forgotten Island PDX is influenced by the direct cinema style of the Maysles brothers as well as experimental audiovisual experiences like Koyaanisqatsi and Samsara.

WINTER SEMESTER is a 10 day immersion & performance workshop led by Portland, Oregon’s prominent butoh artists: Meshi Chavez, Mizu Desierto & Stephanie Lanckton. This is a unique opportunity to delve into three seasoned perspectives on accessing corporeal awareness, embodiment and creative imagination. The 40+ hour intensive will culminate in a performance at the Headwaters Theatre. Participants will initially work with each artist separately, eventually coming together to sculpt a final performance piece. Bring your curiosity, expand your presence, and step onto the stage.
EARLY BIRD PRICING if paid before January 25th ($50 increase in scales beginning January 26th).
I will be creating an improvised electronic sound design for the final production / ending performance with all the students, created by Meshi, Mizu, and Stephanie.

In the last decades of the last century, thousands migrated to the Pacific Northwest in pursuit of radical freedom, land, forest and sky. They formed communes, cohousing, co-ops and autonomous zones. Some communities endured and others crumbled, fell apart, mossed over.
Inspired by firsthand interviews with dozens of residents of utopian communities of the 60s, 70s and 80s, Psychic Utopia honors all those who’ve felt the call of Oregon could lead to something larger than themselves. Using special techniques, in a studio brimming with house plants and humans, Hand2Mouth’s new show is a joyful experiment in what it takes to build utopia with all of us, here, now and in the future.

FUTURE PROJECTS IN DEVELOPMENT
Man Kind - an electronic audio album x motorcycle film capturing the essence, raw awareness, and dynamic symmetry that the motorcycle experience demands, paired with the explosive balance of motion and emotions of abstract electronic compositions in a companion soundtrack.
Continuous 2015 - 2017.
Stephanie Lanckton - butoh dancer, choreographer and educator. We have been in close collaboration creating dance and sound performances / installations since 2009. We are filming year-round with a focus and approach directed at following the energy-force provided from nature, observing the precision and stimulation of landscapes upon the earth, and perceiving the dancing body confronting consciousness, imagination, and the space between. In Japanese culture, it is often referred to as "Ma", or negative space. In Butoh, dancers often find that Ma is the "invisible" energy that connects all things earthly, in the universe, and in multiple dimensions of space and time.
Join Stephanie Lanckton as she presents a new dance performance at the Headwaters Theater in Portland, OR on Dec. 21st 2016 for the Spectacle Garden 8 : Solstice show. I will be creating new audio for her perfomance. Doors at 6:30 pm and show begins at 7pm.
